Dreame’s original A3 AWD Pro robot mower impressed us in a review last month. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, the company followed up with the new Dreame A4 AWD Pro, adding several upgrades. The standout addition is a small robotic arm that Dreame says can trim grass with what it calls “0 cm edge cutting,” based on the company’s own lab testing.
Smarter Sensors and Precise Navigation
The A4 AWD Pro still relies on LiDAR for mapping, just like its predecessor, but now adds satellite positioning as well. Dreame says this combination delivers centimeter-level accuracy. AI-trained recognition helps the mower spot and steer around obstacles, while time-of-flight sensors on its sides keep it from rolling off ledges or drop-offs. Infrared sensors also detect people and pets near the mower’s boundaries, and Dreame says these same edge sensors guide the trimming arm.
A Trimming Arm Instead of a Sliding Deck
Robotic side arms aren’t common on mowers yet, though the concept could spread the way extending side brushes did on robot vacuums. Most competing robot mowers can only slide their cutting deck sideways to reach closer to a fence or sidewalk edge. That approach still tends to leave a thin strip of grass that needs a manual trim with a handheld weed whacker afterward.
A Redesigned Chassis for Tighter Turns
Dreame also reworked the mower’s chassis. Instead of the omnidirectional front wheels used on the A3, the A4 AWD Pro uses swiveling, servo-driven caster wheels. The company says this setup enables tighter turns, smoother cornering, and easier navigation around obstacles, while reducing wear on the lawn. That last point matters, since the A3 AWD Pro had a tendency to tear up patches of grass during use.
No U.S. Release Date Yet
Dreame hasn’t announced when the A4 AWD Pro will launch in the United States. The delay traces back to a federal restriction on foreign-made robotics, which requires manufacturers to prove that at least 65% of a robot vacuum’s components are made domestically before it can be sold in the U.S.
